Children are heavily burdened with pressure of the academic system today. In the quest to get good grades and excel in extracurricular activities, somewhere the joy of learning is lost. I am a new mommy and one of my biggest concerns is whether I would be able to integrate extracurricular activities at par with academic excellence in my kid. But recently, I was introduced to STEM toys by my brother. They helped him in keeping the educational quotient alive in his son along with immense entertainment. I heaved a sigh of relief!
The idea of STEM toys (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is to help children learn the basic concepts and theories through innovation and fun. The simplest example of STEM toys are building blocks that teach the fundamentals of engineering in early childhood. I would spend hours with my nephew building a variety of structures with construction sets (building a garbage truck was his favorite). Toys such as robotics kits and memory games were highly encouraged in the house and before we knew it, my nephew had learnt to build a world of possibilities at an early age Thanks to STEM toys, for they fire up the logical and creative sides of the brain!
The world today is super competitive and it is important to gain the upper hand as early as possible for your child. I observed that essential skills such as coding can be learnt with these toys which will further help kids in their career path. Studies have also shown that educational toys encourage a divergent and atypical approach to real world situations.
Another major reason to choose STEM toys at a young age is that they aid in the development of a child’s motor skills such as hand-eye coordination. At just 7 months, my little one loves stacking up his coloured blocks! The building of simple structures such as the stacking of blocks has strengthened his imagination and made him visualize a structure even before he began constructing it.
So, as parents, if you want to make education fun & exciting, and usher in a brighter future for your children, STEM toys are your best bet!
