Of all the superheroes that we’ve known, Spiderman is undoubtedly the most loved among all age groups. There’s hardly anyone who doesn’t admire that sweet little kid, Peter Parker from the neighbourhood who metamorphoses into a spiderlike superhuman hurling webs through his wrists when his city is under threat.
Popular game developers, Insomniac Games in association with Sony Interactive Entertainment, have come up with yet another edition of one of their bestselling action-adventure games – Marvel’s Spider-Man. It was released on 7th of Sept, 2018.
Game critics have already lauded the game with regard to its gameplay and graphics and called it one of the best superheroes ever created. The plot and characterisation and the combat is so well designed that the gamer would not want to get off the gaming console even for a minute.
The plot is based on a completely new story which doesn’t connect back to any comic book or movie of previous video game versions. It’s more like a narrative from a third person’s point of view. It emphasises on the features of the kind-hearted Peter Parker as well as the aggressive Spiderman at the same time. While the gamer can effectively utilise Spidey’s extreme parkour skills and his too-good-to-be-true reflexes to battle his foes, the Peter Parker in him can always pull the bad guys who he’s thrown off skyscrapers, with his web before they hit the ground. Peter, in this story, is trying to help Dr. Octavius with his research on prosthetic limbs and he comes across a lethal bioweapon called Devil’s Breath which is accidentally developed by Oscorp while developing a cure for genetic diseases. The only available sample of this bioweapon is then stolen by one of his nemeses, Martin Li. In an attempt to prevent this destructive bioweapon from affecting the world, Peter gets involved with a few more of his enemies like Scorpion, Vulture, Electro, and Rhino whom he had previously incarcerated.
American actor, Yuri Lowenthal who has lent his voice to Peter Parker has breathed life into the character delving into his soul and turning it into a realistic experience for gamers. This game has been selling like hotcakes and has successfully sold 3.3 million copies within the first 3 days of release which has made it the fastest selling video game ever. If you haven’t got your copy yet, don’t fret, just go to your nearest Landmark store and set off on a webbing adventure today! And remember “With great power comes great responsibility”
